WEYBRIDGE VANDALS 1ST XI CAPTAIN’S REPORT 2012
2012 proved to be a bittersweet campaign for the Vandals’ 1st XI who had high hopes of pressing on and gaining promotion to the Surrey Championship in 2013. The Vandals put out a stern warning of their intentions to all 1st XI clubs during the first half of the season, managing to secure 127 points out of a possible 160 – winning 6 on the trot.
However the V’s could not live up to expectations in the second half of the season and only managed to win 3 in 9 games (with 2 rained off) to finish a disappointing 4th – same as 2011.
2012 will be remembered for being a transitional year for the 1st XI with players who had been knocking on the door in 2011 getting their chances and taking them with both hands. There is little doubt that the exposure to the higher level of cricket that these youngsters now have will play a significant role in 2013. This investment in young talent will hopefully pay dividends in years to come as the V’s strive for a place in the Surrey Championship.
Congratulations must go out to the whole squad in 2012 for what was overall a fine season. A special congrats to the youngsters; Mark Fenton, Sam Buckell, Tom Neville and Connor Baker; all who made the transition into the 1st XI side and who all showed that this club has plenty to look forward to in seasons to come.
